Roughly $100 more for the 3a seems a better deal.

    • +5

      Using math that's 25% more.

      • +1

        Yes?!?!?!?

        • +2

Different price bracket. Most people are aware if you spend 25% more you'll get something better.

Would make sense to compare phones around the same price.

          • -4

@WatchNerd: Saying it's 25% doesnt make it sound magically way more lol
One is 400 and the other is 500, very similar price.
How many price brackets do you have? 20? 40?

          • @WatchNerd: 100 more is the same price bracket imo.

          • +2

@WatchNerd: Eh? It's probably useful for people to know there's a new model. Just because people are checking out this deal doesn't mean they can't afford another product. Age matters with android phones and it could be a consideration.

            • @16k-zx81: Never said members can't talk about other phones or can't afford it. Someone should post it if it's a better deal, let the community decide.

      • +22

But you're going from a 2 to a 3, which is 50% more phone! 25% extra cost for 50% extra phone seems like a (oz)bargain!

…I have no clue what I'm on about. I'll see myself out 🙃

        • +1

          But 2 is 66.7% of 3. So maybe it's only 33.3% better?

          • @wombat81: Well, in that case $100 is only 20% of $500. So 2 only 20% cheaper than 3.

            • +4

@dealhunter52: True. Also 33.3% is equal to 0.33 which rounds down to 0. So the 2a and 3a are therefore exactly the same model.

20% is 0.2 which also rounds down to 0 so they are also the same price.

              Solved

        • r/They did the maths.

        • That's more than Nothing, compared to iPhone minor upgrades to iPayForNothing ;)

        • -1

Correct, but your also getting another years support of operational software , as above comment has stated .

      • +1

25% more of nothing is still nothing! ;D

  • +45

Reported to the mods for posting nothing.

    • +2

Was wondering why I couldn't see anything.

      • +1

        Anything is better than nothing

    • +1

There is nothing you can do to stop these people posting nothing. Nothing!

    • +2

      nothing to look at here

      move right along folks

      it's nothing!

    • +4

Good point. I told my wife that today I bought nothing

      • +9

My wife told me that nothing is better than diamonds. So I got her nothing.

So anyway that’s the story of how I’m in the doghouse again

On the other hand, I regret saying to my kids that if they didn't mow the lawn, they'd get nothing! The lawn is not mowed…

Who uses this never seen anyone use it

    • +8

      People with nothing.

      • If you have nothing, you can't afford nothing, not even a nothing phone!

    • I've seen a guy in the Adelaide airport use this once

      • +18

Imagine the phone starts glowing in your pocket with those back led lights, and airport security asks what's in your pocket and you say nothing.

        🤣

My teenage son has one. Loves it.

    • +3

People in the enthusiast tech niche who also don't happen to have much money or just don't care for having a phone with all the bells and whistles.

      • -2

It certainly doesn't have all the bells and whistles:

        • No headphone jack or SD slot

Nor wireless charging, which really should be standard in all phones at this price.

        • Sd slot is a Huge disappointment for me. I can do without the rest

        • @Russ Why?

I go to bed, I plug in my phone.
I wake up, I unplug it.

Wireless charging is saving me absolutely sfa effort, no need for it.

No SD card slot on an 128gb phone?… oooofff. Deal breaker.

          • +1

            @yamumma:

Wireless charging … no need for it.

And yet it's standard on every iPhone since iPhone 10 or so, and on every Android flagship phone. Which generally means it's a feature that lots of people like.

            No SD card slot

Well for me, I like having a much larger SD card in my phone. If my phone is damaged or if I upgrade, or even if I need to borrow another phone temporarily, I just move the SD card to the new phone/replacement phone and my data is available immediately. And if I run out of space, I can buy a new micro-SD card with larger capacity, much cheaper than I can upgrade my phone.

Some people prefer to "rent" online storage for their data; with Apple, 512GB of online storage is larger than their 200GB plan, so you have to go for their 2TB plan which costs $15/month. That money would buy a 512GB SD card outright in four months and then have no ongoing costs, I know which I'd prefer to buy (I don't have an iPhone, I'm just using the Apple pricing because it's easy to look up).

And I think it's insane when I see people paying hundreds of dollars extra to purchase the 512GB versions of phones, when we all know that a 512GB micro-SD card costs about $60. And they'll pay hundreds of dollars more every time they upgrade, purchasing the same overpriced internal memory over and over again, when they could have bought a single micro-SD card - although phone manufacturers are largely forcing people to do this, by removing SD card slots in their high-end phones.

            • @Russ: Brettick and I were agreeing with you on the SD card slot. Especially on an 128gb model.

              • +2

@yamumma: I think the phone manufacturers removed the SD slot on their top-end phones because they want people to overpay for large storage, and the phone manufacturers make more profit. But it seems self-defeating, because for many people that stops them from considering expensive phones, as we want the card slot. I guess we're in the minority.

Perhaps telcos requested the card slot be removed, so the telcos could sell plans with more data.

    • +1

Have one of these. Decent phone but camera just not good enough. Delay on snapping, average quality focus.

  • +1

This or the cheaper Motorola Edge 50 Neo $348 + $50 GC?

Neo has similar performance and longer updates

Moto is smaller and lighter and has a brighter screen with slightly higher resolution.
Moto also has the slightly newer Dimensity chip.
Moto has an extra camera and 4k video recording. Nothing 2a only does 1080p.
Moto has a smaller battery, but has faster wired charging and has wireless charging. No wireless charging on the 2a.
Performance seems pretty similar with the Moto performing slightly better on AnTuTu and GeekBench but the 2a winning on 3DMark.
The 2a seems to have considerably better battery life.

So unless you want the bigger screen of the 2a, the Moto seems to be a clear winner.

      • +4

This might be a deciding factor -

        Moto is Nano-SIM + eSIM. Nothing is Nano-SIM + Nano-SIM.

        • Moto is Nano-SIM + eSIM. Nothing is Nano-SIM + Nano-SIM.

It seems all telcos offer eSIM now, and there seem to be much better deals on eSIMs when purchasing for overseas travel. Does anyone prefer physical SIM over eSIM?

      • +2

You missed the most important difference.

Nothing OS is light-years better than Edge 50 Neo. Funky style, frequent updates, interesting and innovative OS specific software. Edge 50 Neo…let's just say a number of us had to go-to Moto forum and made a fuss before they gave us security update.

I have a Edge 50 Neo… But my reason is for the size. If Nothing brought out a small phone I would switch in a heartbeat.

  • How does this compare to the gold Trump Phone T1?

    • +8

Well that phone is something and this one is nothing. Hope that helps.

    • +2

That phone makes you great, this makes you nothing

    • +1

One of them is made in puts on best accent Chynah.

      • You can use this one in public even after Trump is out of power

  • I think the motorola will be a better value isnt it? With higher specs …. And cheaper

  • Phone have milk now…

  • I kindda regret buying one. constant wifi issue every day despite all update and reset. Phone is connected to wifi however no internet. 4g works fine. I have to restart phone twice a day to fix the issue. no other device at home has internet/wifi issue.

    • +3

Seems faulty. Surely you'd return it?

    • Got it from JB? Take it back. No issues with mine.

      • been almost a year now

        • No issues with that

    • Mine is fine so far, have you tried restart your modem? Assume you have. Please contact their support they have been extremely helpful for me. Settings>system>feedback>the "feedback" chat icon on bottom right>click agree, there you can lodge issue.

  • Phone 3a is ~$480-500 on amazon (german import)

    worth the upgrade?

  • +5

I absolutely LOVE my 2a. Zero Faults or probs. I had a few of the cheaper Moto's before I bought it, and I MUCH prefer the 2a. The camera is way better, the build quality feels fantastic. I got the 12GB model, if that helps. Really recommend this phone. I think the milk white looks really cool in a transparent case too.

  • Why get this over a Motorola?

    • Because some people don't moto

    • +2

      Nothing is better than moto

      • hello moto.

      • the name is so nice…you say it twice!

    • So far the motos I have, g54/75

Find the os very similar to stock andorid or pixel(never used one before but had PixelExp rom on my Poco F1).

I notice the slower storage impacts the device at times UFS? whatever that spec is.

I notice the cameras are definitely a lot slower and processing goes on.

Some software things could be a lot better.

Stock camera app is lacking and pretty disappointing for me.

    • Because it doesn't yell "HELLO MOTO"!!! at you every time you power it on

  • +2

Happy with mine coming from Samsung S22+.
I just wanted decent battery life, otherwise has been very similar performance.

  • +1

    I have nothing mobile phone.

    • Is it your greatest phone of all?

  • John Cena should sponsor this phone.

  • Are mediatek dimensity worth considering over snapdragon devices these days?

Is it just they're cheaper for more performance

and snapdragon still considered more flagship but more expensive?

I hear for winlator and that, snapdragon adreno chips are better. And driver support is worse on dimensity and emulation and stuff.

  • Amazing phone for the price. Highly reccommend.

  • +1

    wife: what did you buy?
    me: nothing…
