Much cheaper alternative to AirTags that personally I find better for anti-theft as they're harder to locate without Ultraband finding, so they only know it's 'somewhere' in. your car. Speaker is also easily removed with a hairdryer. Mine has been great so far.

  • 80dB built-in buzzer
  • The hole on the Finder allows you to easily attach the tag to important items such as keys, backpacks, suitcases, etc.
  • Left behind reminder
  • Apple Find My certification

Note: As pointed out below, this is not supported on Android.

    How long battery last?
And why would you remove the speaker?
    Trying to get some ideas

    • +1

      It says 24 months.

      • +1

        And replaceable

      • what happens if i loose it on the last day of the 24th month? am I screwed?

        • Yes, I had an Airtag that was begging me to change its battery but I forgot to do so. Now it's gone as I forgot which item I put it in.

    • +10

      remove speaker

Harder for thieves to find tag (eg locate your car)

      • I thought they can deactivate the tag on their device without knowing where it is? If that is right, can't see much point aside from losing a car AND a tag at the same time….

        • +1

You can't deactivate an airtag that doesn't belong to you. You should find the device and physically remove the battery.

    • +1

Because some people don't like being tracked, like your kids, for example. If you don’t remove the speaker, they'll know you’re tracking them.

      • +11

They’ll know you’re tracking them even without the speaker, they’ll just have a harder time locating it

        • I know they get notified if it's an AirTag. But what about third-party ones? I put an Atuvos in my wife's car (with her knowledge), and she never got any alerts.

          • @jimojr:

Timely Reminder: When you leave the item at a certain distance, the phone will automatically pop up a window to remind you. This distance will vary depending on the surrounding environment

Is this what you're talking about ?

            • +3

@51ngh: if someone places an AirTag in your bag without your knowledge, your iPhone (or other Apple device running iOS 14.5 or later) will alert you that an unknown AirTag is traveling with you. Apple designed this feature specifically to prevent unwanted tracking.

              • +3

@jimojr: Similar alert with Android phones.

              • @jimojr: That means it can alert the car thieves the same way…right? What's the point of it then?

                • +7

@dealhunter52: The point is for the 1000'th time the use case for AirTags is not for people tracking or Anti-Theft or Anti Thief. The primary purpose is to track lost personal items, Not Stolen personal items. of course there is a convergence in these use cases however if YOU choose to use these for their unintended purpose there are limitations to that ie a thief can easily find and disable an air tag, the person you are tracking can be made aware you are tracking them. These are deliberate design decisions/and or compromises that have been made.

                  • @H3R34TH4C0MM3NTS: Well, only reason I will ever needed this was to find stolen car. Most lost items outside the premises are also usually assumed stolen.

                    • +1

@dealhunter52: And for you that is a valid reason to use an AirTag for this purpose. using an AirTag to find a stolen vehicle is better than having nothing despite its limitations. It's the people constantly thinking they are intelligent by pointing out that they can be easily detected by thieves as if the designers of this product were completely unaware of this. This product was never designed to be a stealth tracking device.

              • @jimojr: Yes that makes sense but I don’t think you can trigger the buzzer unless you’re the registered user. So not sure why people remove the speaker

          • @jimojr: Yes, the unwanted tracking protections apply to all Find My network stuff, including the unwanted tracking alerts on iOS and Android. It's not exclusive to the AirTag.

          • @jimojr: Any tag that uses Apple's find my network will alert to its presence.

      • +6

My kids will like what I tell them to like.

        • -3

Someone who says that either doesn’t have kids or still has one in their arms

          • +5

@jimojr: Someone who says that doesn't watch The Simpsons.

      • kids need to be tracked you need to put one of these round there ankles. for sure.

    • so basically they are apple airtag rebranded and cheaper :D

    • +2

      No Android support

      • -4

        wow.. unbelievable

        • I believe you can track them using any web browser on android.

          • +2

@saltysalt: Anyone can confirm this? This would make it useful enough with an android phone

            • @Bluey123: still keen to know if anyone can confirm this, although based on other comments I might look up aliexpress first

          • @saltysalt: with an apple id - find my login presumably

        • -1

Totally different technology? At this price point you're buying a tag specific to your platform, not multi-platform.

    • +39

Why are you negging for lack of Android support? This is a great deal on an otherwise $35 product.

Just because it doesn't support your platform of choice doesn't make it a bad deal and is not what negative votes are for.

      • +9

I guess he also negs all iphone, Apple giftcard … deals.

        • +2

Looks like they hate freedom of support.

  • +12

    Note:Android Devices are not Supported

  • +2

I bought this from the last post here.. I like it!

  • +3

Good price, this is brings it on par with Aliexpress pricing.

  • +1

I’m after something credit card shaped to slide in to a wallet or passport wallet. The best I’ve found is this Moki with wireless charging.

  • Purchased!

  • +2

I’ve looked at this a few times. Looks like good alternative although I suspect this is the price most of the time.

  • +1

    Is there an Android version?

    • Don't know why my post with a link to AE got flagged as spam. You can just search "airtag Android" and find plenty on AE

  • Is there any disadvantage of using this vs a genuine apple ?

    • +2

It doesn’t support Precision Finding like a genuine Apple AirTag does.

      • Usually, there is no U1 chip for those cheap ones. They simply used Bluetooth LE broadcast as a beacon, like other products such as Tile etc.

  • These look pretty good - I’ve been happy with the Atuvos trackers which worked WAY better than my native AirTags and also easy to remove the speaker. For this price, I’ll have a go at these as well. Compared to AirTags these aftermarket trackers seem to work so much better - my AirTags don’t show battery status until they are close to dead whereas these always show the battery status, and don’t seem to use as much power as AirTags. When we went travelling to Europe the AirTags weren’t refreshing as quickly as the Atuvos ones….why I have no idea - either way, I think I’ll be only buying well reviewed aftermarket trackers from now on…tldr, save your money and buy these instead of AirTags

  • For anyone who owns one of these, what's your experience using it for in car use? I understand it doesn't do live tracking, but do you always get a ping when you tap it in Find My app (assuming there's an Apple device close by)? How often will the location update if it is moving? Doesn't seem to be much info I can find online about this device…

    • If you are actually worried about your car just invest in something more robust - like SolidGPS

      • Thanks - looks interesting, but seems to have annual subscription. Guess that's what's needed with true GPS and GSM transmission.

  • +5

You can pick up similar tags from Ali for $2 to $3.

Add it to Apple Find My app as a 3rd party device.

No precision finding as compared with genuine tags but neither does the ugreen.

    • Yeh - this. Not sure this Ugreen has anything better than the cheap Ali ones. For sh1ts and giggles I bought about 5 different ones and they all seem to do an ok job. As you note - no precision finding due to no UWB.

    • Care to share a link to one of those? Thanks in advance

      • +1

Not recommended, I bought three from AliExpress around 5 or 6 months ago, and one has already stopped working. The quality is terrible, and they could break at any time. On another one, after I replaced the battery, the cover couldn’t be put back properly.

        • My chipolo which was expensive, required breaking to replace the battery. Rediculous

      • Just search for airtag on AE, you'll see abundant of them

    • +1 to this.

I started with AirTags and then started using the cheap Aliexpress ones and so far so good after 6-9 months. No battery replacement required either, yet.

  • +1

What's made apple open up their tags to cheapo 3rd parties all a sudden?

well if only they opened to android and made a universal standard - who am I kidding…

  • Just confirming, do these work as part of the Find My Network? As in, everyone iPhone in the world can ping it and share the location with me incase I lose it?

    • Yes that's correct

  • +1

Anyone got a link on how to remove the speaker? Need to put inside ebike

    • +1

I've done it myself. Just open it up to replace the battery, pop out the circuit board (it's held in place with plastic clips). It's on the back side, use a hair dryer to pry it off. About 5 minutes to do.

      • +1

Thanks. Will have a look when it turns up.

      • Opened the case how to reach the speaker ?thanks

      • Back side of the circuit board or the plastic case?

    • +2

Another quicker way that is also reversible, is to put a layer of regular clear sticky tape between the pcb and speaker to isolate the contacts.

      • bingo! thank you ser

      • Is there a video somewhere? Surprisingly hard to find a video on how to remove the circuit board.

        • +1

Hairdryer for a couple of seconds and pry under the glued sides and it’ll pop out

        • +1

Literally just have to peel back the black sticker and use tweezers to pop out the board. Should be quite easy. The speaker is the white disc on the rear case.

        • +1

I didn't find any videos but it goes something like this:

          • open the tag up with a simcard eject pin
          • remove the battery
          • one of the corners has a cutout in the PCB, use a small flat screwdriver to leveler out in both directions until the PCB pops out
          • stick tape over the speaker to isolate it from PCB
          • reassemble
          • test

just did another one right now

      • That’s actually a great idea! I’ll keep it in mind.

  • +1

RE speaker, all done, thanks for the suggestions guys

    • Where in the e-bike did you put it?

      • +3

        Nice try thief

      • In the frame, remove speaker, double sided tape. Not easy to find..

        • easy to change battery? unfortunately bike thieves are quite switched on and know to look everywhere for trackers. also the frame will block signal.

          • @theguyrules: Yeah look, at the end of the day it is only a basic tracker but hopefully worst comes to worst they find it once its back at their place/shed/stash and you have a ping on location.
            Better then nothing

            • @stuarty9: oh for sure, i have a bell that hides an Airtag but probably is fairly obvious. but better than nothing indeed.

  • Back at the same price again for those interested

  • While have not tried this UGreen tracker
After used some third party "Find My" trackers
I find that UWB precise location is very useful in some cases
and will now stick with AirTags for those "smaller" items (eg. Keys)
