This isn't a deal given that Lego Store has inflated RRP pricing that is 15-25% more expensive than other retailers.

Spot checked a few random sets and you can get them 25-40% off via Amazon, BIG W right now so the 20-25% savings from the gift card works out more expensive.

    • +3

Not really. You cant get Lego exclusives from BIGW/Amazon etc so this voucher is actually very useful.

      • Fair Call. Vote removed.

Good if you want the exclusives/brand new sets. Can buy some from Lego resellers though like Rick James Bricks, Just Bricks etc. but also not on sale.

Generally agree and haven't shopped there myself, but for exclusive sets it's probably as good as it gets.

    • -1

Wrong. The prices at the LEGO store ARE RRP. Other retailers choose to discount the sets.

Who buys directly from Legos these days? They already 50% expansive.

People who want the Lego exclusive sets :)

And pick a brick, and build a minifig

    • Lego does deals some times.

Yeah other than maybe once or twice during their lifetime on shelves, many exclusive sets do not get discounted on LEGO.com or by the LEGO Certified Stores, which are separate business entirely. Waiting for those exclusives to get discounted during a rare Lego.com sale event might take a long time, so often it’s best to use an LCS voucher deal like this (worth 20% on a $400 set like Ninjago City Workshops like I bought two days ago) if you want to wait for a “discount”. The other option is a Lego.com double VIP points event, but that’s only worth about 10% equivalent I think.

Having said that, Lego are increasingly redefining “exclusive” to also mean “retailer exclusive” for some themes and sets, sometimes immediately or after a few months of initial release.

So it’s possible that you’ll be able to find “exclusive” sets like Modular buildings at Myer or David Jones, or the Zelda Deku Tree at Amazon, where they will get discounted more regularly.

There are definitely still a few true Lego.com and LCS exclusives for Australian buyers though, such as Ninjago City.

Main issue with this deal is Lego AG charges shipping whereas LEGO.com is free over $149.

For example I would like the new Space Shuttle Carrier #10360, $349.99. Lego AG will charge me $29.16 to ship this item and the resulting gift card is only $40, so I am only $11 head. But also, if I spend that gift card they are going to charge shipping again next time around and the card itself is basically wiped on shipping charges.

Same thing happens in the higher spends, even at $800 with $200 card, the initial ship plus the second purchase ship will be in the realm of $50-90 and your card is now half eaten by freight.
