  • I didn't even know they had 75mm angle grinders

    • +1

Been around for quite a while now and a lot of brands have one. They are more a cut off tool than a grinder though.

Would this be suitable for hanging up pictures and curtain rails? I'm new to DIY and want to try some small jobs myself

    • +1

Yes. But so would the $179 Ozito drill and impact driver kit, or even just the $69 drill driver kit, presuming you’re not drilling into bricks.

      • Hi i am in the same boat, new to dyi, however my walls are concrete and rendered bricks. Would i need something like those machine gun looking hammer drills? Honestly, don't think i could lift one.

        • +1

Nah you can buy 'masonry drill bits' and just put them in a regular drill it just takes a bit longer to drill the holes. You have to mark the concrete where you want it to mount then buy wall plugs and drill a hole for them and when you mount your picture drill your screw into the lug in the hole

    12v

    • +2

      What gave it away?

      • What's the potential difference with other drills in the market?

    • It's got more volts than a lot of other things

    • +1

I think the brushless 12v tools are pretty decent. I believe yhese are not the brushless version though.

    • -8

Yep 12v is a waste of time. I used to have a 12v drill and just ended up doing stuff up by hand.

      • +2

This impact driver has become 1 of my favourite handyman tools, don’t be fooled by the 12v it has heaps of torque

        • +2

He doesn't know what he's torquing about

        • Same! This is an amazing little kit for the price, I use it almost daily. Has heaps of power - enough that I rarely ever need my 18v makita brushless stuff any more. The little cut off saw is super handy, can get into tight spots easily and I’ve used it way more than I expected I would.

I have the Milwaukee M12 hamer drill and driver set and it's plenty powerful. Unless you have forearms like Popeye there's no way you could generate anywhere near the same amount of torque with a screwdriver.

    • +1

I have both the Bosch and Milwaukee 12v cordless gear and they provide more torque than what I can do on an average screwdriver. Your statement is incorrect.

The problem with Bosch 12v gear is the skin range is limited at the moment. The reps always say they have more gear in the works but the releases are soo slow.

Might need to lift more, your skinny arms might be different to the average gym go-er.

        • +2

look at this guy with his fatceps

      • Milwaukee 12v drill and impact driver are much powerful but also much heavier than Bosch, skin weight similar to their 18v.

    • I have this impact driver. It can drive a full batten screw into pine no problem. Slower than 18v for sure, but manages. I could not do that with a screwdriver

    • +4

Yet somehow 12v can start a car.

      • Excellent point over the knuckle-draggers.

  • I thought 12v disappeared 20 years ago.

    • -1

It did, in an age of NiCad and NiMH.

It’s not necessary with lithium ion and requires more cells.

If I were starting over again I would almost definitely go this system.

      • My Makita 18v impact has 165nm and I could use more, 105 isn't a lot.
