  • Singapore planning to cancel Brisbane flights?

    • +1

Seems unlikely since they only just introduced a 4th daily flight out of Brisbane

      • Correct, it continues to increase and have capitalised the situation and have established it as a leader in this segment and its connecting flights to South and SE Asia post covid. MAS is still struggling with management and aircraft issues however they are starting services again in Dec 2025.

        • Brisbane - Ho Chi Minh City (1 Jun 25 - 28 Aug 25)

Gold Coast and Tasmania also have deal limits in 2025 compared to 2026 for the rest.

  • Was there in August last year and the heat was brutal.

    • Vietnam is SEA. Heat is all year round.

Dec and Jan may cool down couple degrees but still sweating even sitting there and do nothing

      • +2

December and January is much cooler I have been a couple of times.
In August the heat was so bad they even the locals were complaining. In Da Nang the beaches felt like warm baths and you would burn your feet crossing the sand.

  • Commercial flights are for suckers, I'm just going to borrow one from the Trump Presidential Library.

  • Waiting to pounce on Japan or Thailand. Come on!

    • +1

Overtourism galore there atm. Locals aint happy

      • +1

Over tourism in Thailand, I don't think so it's never recovered from COVID. Their economy is in the shitter. Japan, seen some videos stay away, it's like the Vatican during July/August, basically a heard of cattle unable to stop, just pushed along in and out the door..

        • I was in Japan this time last year. definitely over touristed in Osaka and it was the rudest I'd ever seen out the locals and tourists there BUT outside of the city, the place was just like it used to be pre COVID. Shikoku was amazing and untouristed, Okinawa was absolutely fine too. Even Kobe and Nagaoya werent too bad. Still rates as my favourite country to revisit but I'm not doing the same itinerary as many others

      • In Matsudo where our 3 grandkids are you barely see any tourists. We aren’t interested in tourism hotspots.

    • +1

I believe a lot of airline sales are co-govt funded. I don't think Japan & Thailand are chasing extra tourists at the moment.

      • +1

Japan govt has publicly stated that they intend to significantly increase tourism over the next few years. There is a move to shift this more to the regions where possible though.

    • +2

You don’t have to stay long in the main cities in Japan. The countryside or even smaller cities like Nagano isn’t crowded like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka when I visited in spring this year. I wouldn’t skip Japan if it’s really top of your list. So many other great towns/cities to visit

I would still prefer a direct flight, always go with Vietjet no exactly the most glamorous but I sleep for 6/7 hours and I'm there..

    • what price for xmas on Vietjet compare to other airlines?

      • No idea, usually around 600-700 return from Brisbane. Sometimes they do specials we got 1000$ for business which was awesome to put the feet up, it's not as glamorous as other first class setups but it's direct which is the main benefit.

        • wow, for that price, i would like to try Vietjet!

    • I had no problem with vietjet. I challenged myself with carry on only and thoroughly enjoyed not having baggage.

I am pretty sure the song they play on loop at landing and takeoff constitutes a war crime in some nations, though…

I flew to hcmc in September last year for $350 return from Melbourne

  • Is there still a Singapore & Virgin partnership since the Qatar investment?
Thinking about points and lounge access potential.

    • Currently, yes. If you've got Velocity Gold or higher you'll get into the KrisFlyer Gold lounges at Changi (Terminal 3 is the best one), priority check-in and boarding, and some extra baggage allowance. Can also credit the flights to Velocity rather than KrisFlyer if you link your accounts.

  • It is a good time to visit Vietnam?

    • In terms of weather, safety, prices? What are your criteria?

    • +2

It's a long country so it depends where you go as the climate varies.
We went in August last year to Saigon and Da Nang with two kids. They found it extremely hot so we mostly spent our time at the hotel pool. Had some showers but they were very quick.
Hanoi would be a bit cooler but more rainy.

We found Vietnam pretty safe and now that the Grab app is everywhere, getting around or getting good delivery is simple and cheap. There are taxi scams but if you pre-book or use Grab then you will be fine
